Recipe Mac & Cheese with Tuna

As we almost leave to sunny Florida, I thought it would be fun to put a typical American recipe online. Mac & Cheese, or macaroni and cheese, is very popular in America and is a real comfort food. It’s popular among children but of course adults also love macaroni and lots of melted cheese. The standard version is great but can be much healthier. Besides macaroni, milk and lots of cheese, I’ve added some vegetables and canned tuna.

  • Cook the macaroni according to package directions.
  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
  • Crush the garlic cloves, cut the zucchini into cubes and halve the cherry tomatoes.
  • Fry the garlic cloves in oil and add the diced zucchini and cherry tomatoes.
  • Add some salted butter for flavor and so you stew the vegetables a little.
  • Chop the parsley. I’ve used curly parsley because they didn’t had leaf parsley in the store, but leaf parsley is better.
  • Drain the tuna and macaroni.
  • Stir in the parsley and tuna through the vegetables.
  • For the cheese sauce you put some salted butter in a saucepan. Add the milk and stir with a fork 1 pack of grated cheese through it. Keep stirring until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth. For more bond you can add a tablespoon of flour.
  • Put some salted butter in the baking dish, put the hot macaroni over it so you can stir the butter through the macaroni. Add the vegetable mixture and mix well with the macaroni. Divide the cheese sauce over the macaroni and sprinkle the 2nd pack of shredded cheese on top of the dish.
  • All of this then needs only 10 minutes in the oven.
