About time for a new blog post! After my 2 weeks in sunlit Florida with my family, I’ve a lot of catching up to do on my blog. I got a few questions about what I take with me in my carry-on on such a long flight. I don’t take with me that much (not counting the baggage of my husband and children, lots of candy I can tell you that).
Besides my carry-on I also take with me my handbag. So that’s two pieces of hand luggage and that’s not allowed with every airline. Check in advance the website of the airline that you are flying with, some have a requirement that you can take only one piece of hand luggage per person with you. If there’s some space left in your carry-on you can put your handbag in there.
Travel Essentials.
The only thing I’ve in my handbag are the passports of everyone, the travel documents and my wallet. The rest is in my carry-on.
- A very important one, especially when you go to sleep and / or have an overnight flight, is a neck pillow. So you don’t have a stiff neck when waking up. This is one is by Hema and I used it on the flight back to Amsterdam.
- I’ve a mild fear of contamination and clean my hands quite often during the day. Airplanes are a source of bacteria and therefore I take antibacterial wipes with me. These Nice! Disinfecting Wipes I bought last year at the Walgreens in America. Kill many bacteria and can be used on the plane to take off the table in front of you and the toilet seat (don’t flush it down the toilet).
- I take with me a notebook and pencil everywhere I go. You never know what ideas come to mind. You can write it down right away and you don’t have to worry about forgetting it.
- To kill time during a “long” flight it’s nice to, next to your entertainment system, read. I take several magazines with me and a good book. Harlan Coben is one of my favorite authors. His latest book ‘Home‘ is highly recommended.
- For the return flight I use, next to my neck pillow, an eye mask. This pretty one is by Hunkemöller.
- More bacteria hysteria. These dettol cleaning wipes clean your hands, are antibacterial and prevent the spread of bacteria.
- Aspirins, just in case someone gets a headache or doesn’t feel completely fit. Always good to have with you, I always use Finimal.
- The Beauty On The Fly travel bag especially for liquids I got from Sephora last year. The bag is transparent so that it’s immediately visible what’s inside at a possible check. You can bring 1 liter per person of liquids in your hand luggage. These liquids must then be in a package of up to 100ml each. Toothpaste, foundation and concealer are considered as fluids but lip gloss and lip balm aren’t (good to know right?).
- The compressed deodorants by Dove I love at the moment. They have a small size (75ml) and are therefore ideal for travel.
- The air conditioner in the plane is really an attack on your skin. Good skin care is therefore very important. At home I optimally hydrate my skin. This time with the booster serum by NOVEXPERT that has a very high doses of hyaluronic acid (not in the picture, but soon a review). During the flight I spray my face occasionally with a face mist. This one by Bobbi Brown is great, it refreshes, hydrates and soothes the skin.
- Also the lips can feel dry after a while in the air. Elizabeth Arden has a very fine lip balm with 8 nourishing vitamins and minerals. The lip balm gives a nice gloss and also contains SPF 20, making it essential on a sunny holiday.
- A 100ml bottle of my perfume which I currently use, Boss The Scent For Her is a wonderfully sultry and spicy perfume. This kind of small bottles often come in a special gift package. Of course you can also use a perfume atomizer where you can put your favorite perfume in. The Reload atomizer is suitable to take with you on the plane.
- The use of a hand cream is just as important as a face cream, because the skin of your hands can quickly show age spots. I reived the Pronails anti-aging hand cream from my nail stylist but actually every nourishing hand cream is sufficient.
- I wear contact lenses (-3.75 in both eyes sadly) and then your eyes can use some extra attention. The air in the plane makes your eyes dry so eye drops are therefore a must. This on by A. Vogel is suitable for contact lens wearers.
- The return trip from Florida is always a night flight, which means eyes shut and hope you manage to nap for a few hours. It’s not practical to keep your lenses in. The day of the trip I wear cheap glasses by Lensway.
- Last of all Travel Essentials, earplugs. Those of Hema are of soft silicone material and assist with high pressure differentials.
TIP: I don’t take drinks from home. I make sure I drink enough water before I step on the plane and I buy a bottle of water when I get through customs. In addition, water is one of the few things you get offered free of charge on the plane. Very important to hydrate yourself well, especially during a long flight.
These are my Travel Essentials, maybe you have gained some tips for you next flight / trip. XO Frieda.
