There used to be only lip pencils to outline your lips but now there are also big lip pencils to fill in your entire lips with. This way your lips are nicely even of color because you don’t have to use a special pencil to outline your lips and therefore the lips look very natural.
I’ve tested two completely different large lip pencils, one of Burt’s Bees and one from Lord & Berry.
Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon.
Lip Crayon pencil from Burt’s Bees is available in six different colors. What’s good to know is that the pencils are 100% natural and contain no added flavors or perfume. By the nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil and kendi oil this pencil feels soft on the lips and it will keep your lips hydrated throughout the day. Please note; it’s definitely not a lip care product such as Burt’s Bees lip balm where the brand has gained fame with.
This is the color Niagara Overlook. The pencils don’t need to sharpen but can rotate up through the bottom.
The pencil is between a lipstick and a lip balm, the pencil has less pigment then a lipstick and less gloss then a lip balm, you still follow me;). It’s a lipstick / lip balm that gives a subtle color to your lips and at the same time softens your lips.
This photo was taken with artificial light. On the eye the color Niagara Overlook is coral red, but on the lips it’s a soft pink color that accentuates the color of your lips. It gives enough coverage on your lips with a semi-matte finish.
Lord & Berry Maxi Matte Crayon Lipstick.
This pencil of Lord & Berry comes in 3 different colors and has an incredible amount of pigment and a beautiful matte finish. Unfortunately, this pencil is a limited edition but Lord & Berry has more fine lip pencils in the range which also have a matte finish.
This is the color Intimacy. You have to sharpen this pencil with a large size sharpener. Also this pencil feels very nice on the lips which I didn’t really expected. The pencil is quite soft and easy to apply on the lips.
This color I like it so much! It really is such a beautiful berry color what’s a trend right now, intense but not too dark. The photo was taken with daylight.
Conclusion.
When I want a subtle color on my lips I find the Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon pencil quite perfect, the color doesn’t stay very long on the lips but because the pencil is so soft it’s nice to apply it again on your lips often. I love the intense color of the Lord & Berry pencil, especially because it’s a completely matte finish that stays perfect for a long time. Where a matte lipstick sometimes can feel a bit dry on the lips, this pencil feels creamy and pleasant on the lips. When I do feel it’s a little dry on the lips (I’m slightly addicted to lip gloss and then a matte pencil is something else), I prevent that by applying a lip care product before I apply the matte lip pencil.
