11 Baking Soda Beauty Hacks

In fact everyone should have at least one pack of Baking Soda at home. First of course because you can make delicious pies, muffins and pancakes with Baking Soda but secondly because you can do so many other things with it.

Baking Soda (also referred to as sodium hydrogen carbonate or as E-number E500) is used in place of yeast and ensures that the dough will rise. Baking Soda itself is odorless and tasteless. There are many hacks that you can do with Baking Soda but I limit this blog post only with Beauty Hacks.

The Hacks.

1. Dry shampoo.

Baking soda absorbs oils and is therefore well suited as a kind of dry shampoo. Sprinkle some Baking Soda on your roots and brush it thoroughly. Tip; put the baking soda in a pepper or salt cellar.

2. Clarifying shampoo.

Occasionally get rid of product build-up, dirt and oil is highly recommended to keep your hair healthy and beautiful. There are several good shampoos for it, but this can also be done with Baking Soda. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda to your shampoo and wash your hair as usual. Then use conditioner to make your hair soft and supple.

3. Mouthwash.

Baking Soda is added in several mouthwashes and is the main ingredient of my favorite toothpaste Parodontax. It neutralizes odors and the acidity in your mouth so you will have a fresh breath. Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and rinse your mouth with it.

4. Toothpaste.

Brushing with Parodontax (main ingredient Baking Soda) always helps me fight plaque. Baking Soda helps prevent gum disease and plaque. Mix a little baking soda with a little bit of water, dip your toothbrush in there and brush your teeth.

5. Teeth whitening.

Number 4 also works very well against stains and discoloration on your teeth from coffee, tea, food and smoking. To make your teeth whither mix a little water with 3 to 4 teaspoons to make it a thicker paste. You can also do this without adding water. Dip your toothbrush in the baking soda and brush your teeth.

6. Exfoliant.

Baking Soda can be used as a gentle scrub for your face, it removes dead skin cells and gives your skin a beautiful glow. Mix 1 teaspoon with your facial cleanser and gently scrub your face.

7. In Bath.

Adding baking soda to your bath (4 to 5 tablespoons) cleanses your skin of dirt and oils and gives a silky smooth skin. It can also soothes irritated skin (burned skin from the sun) and itching (such as an insect bite).

8. Pimples.

Reduce a pimple by mixing honey with Baking Soda. It will dry out your pimple but not your skin. Apply it on your pimple and leave it for about 15 minutes, rinse with water.

9. Deodorant.

Baking soda neutralizes odors. If you, like me, prefer not to use deodorant with aluminum than this DIY deodorant is for you. It will not only neutralize the odor under your armpit but also the smell on your clothes. Put some baking soda in your hand, mix it with 1 teaspoon of water and spread it under your armpit. Let it dry and ready.

10. Manicure.

Scrub your nails, cuticles and hands with a paste of baking soda and water for smooth white nails and soft hands. Mix 3 tablespoons with one part water for a proper scrub.

11. Footbath.

When you have rough feet or perhaps suffer from sweaty feet, mix 2 tablespoons baking soda in a warm footbath. Let your feet soak for about 20 minutes. It’s highly effective against foot odor and calluses.
