The do’s and don’ts of fillers

Fillers are used in aesthetic medicine to achieve a youthful appearance relatively quickly and safely. Nowadays, many skin consultants also use fillers more often. What should you pay attention to if you want to be treated by fillers? We asked a skin consultant from Fillers Maastricht. The do’s and don’ts of fillers.

Get professional treatments

The Fillers Maastricht consultant indicates that most fillers are able to reduce wrinkles and grooves in less than half an hour. “The effects of filler treatments can last from four to more than twelve months. In many cases, the results are spectacular: restoration of a healthy, youthful appearance and a smooth, radiant complexion. Fillers serve to smooth out wrinkles, making them practically invisible. They are also used to increase and model the volume of certain areas of the face, for example lips, cheeks, temples or chin. They are often also used to correct dark circles under the eyes,” says the skin specialist of Fillers Maastricht.

Do’s with treatments

“Fillers used in aesthetic medicine are very safe products. Hyaluronic acid is the best known and one of the most used products that we use at Fillers Maastricht. It is popular because the effects are predictable, it is easy to administer and complications are very rare,” says the Fillers Maastricht specialist. “In addition, hyalyronic acid can be easily removed if the result is not satisfactory. Hyaluronic acid is used to fill wrinkles and grooves, volume and moisturize the skin. Other common applications are hand rejuvenation and the filling of atrophic scars”.

Moderation when using fillers

The consultant of Fillers Maastricht also gives the following advice: “The key to using the benefits of fillers based on hyaluronic acid correctly is moderation. Puffy cheeks and lips do not look aesthetically pleasing. Excessive use of fillers can also lead to a complete change in facial features or stretching of the skin. As a result, the treated facial area may look even worse after absorbing the preparation. So it is better to repeat the treatment several times in small doses”.

Don’ts in treatments

“All procedures involving agents that are injected are performed in sterile conditions,” says the skin specialist of Fillers Maastricht. “Do not opt for treatments at home, in a hotel or in a spa. It is also not recommended to buy fillers yourself, outside of a doctor’s office. Dishonest sellers can offer products that contain industrial silicones. Also, incorrect administration of filler can in very rare cases lead to tissue necrosis.”

Allergy, clotting disorders or inflammation

She continues: “Interrupt the treatment with fillers if you experience a serious allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock, coagulation disorders and hypersensitivity to one of the components of the preparation. Inflammations such as pimples, pustules or rashes at the place to be treated are also a contraindication to this method of therapy”.

Not for pregnant and lactating women

The skin consultant of Fillers Maastricht warns the use for lactating and pregnant women, people with cancer and autoimmune diseases and people with exacerbations of chronic diseases. They would also rather not undergo treatments with fillers. “Treatment is also not recommended when there is a risk of keloids forming. As a precaution, it is good to tell your doctor if you are taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or herbal supplements. They can influence the blood clotting processes,” concludes the consultant.
