As a birthday present, thank you or as a gift: nothing makes the real wine lover happier than with a good bottle of wine. If you give a wine as a gift, you naturally want the wine to be appreciated by your recipient. And that can be quite difficult if you don’t know someone well. After all, everyone has their own taste. How do you avoid buying the wrong wine? Are you giving a wine as a gift? With these tips you buy a real hit!

  1. Don’t just rely on the label

If you choose a wine for yourself, you can sometimes take a chance and rely on the beautiful label. If the wine is disappointing, it’s not such a disaster. If you give a wine to someone else, it is really wise to look up some information about the wine in advance. What are the tasting notes, has the wine been awarded and has it won awards? A prestigious, award-winning wine immediately creates confidence!

  2. Give an exclusive wine

If you want to put someone in the spotlight because of a special event, you can give a special, somewhat exclusive wine, right? A beautiful, more luxurious quality wine is an elegant and stylish gift that you as a giver can fully support. If you know that your recipient is an experienced wine drinker, you can certainly impress with a Rhône wine such as Chateauneuf du Pape. These award-winning chateau wines are top class and very well known, so will definitely be appreciated by a seasoned wine lover!

  3. Choose a wine that you already know and like

If it’s for a friend or a family member who might have a bit of the same taste as you, you can of course also give your favorite wine as a gift. Especially if your wine preference is not too specific. For example, are you a fan of a nice smooth Pinot Noir, or of rioja red wine from Spain? Then there is a good chance that your recipient will also be happy with this. These are very friendly, accessible wines. Soft and round in taste and easy to drink and combine!

  4. Safe choice

Of course you can also just go for the safest choice and buy an everyone’s friend. You can hardly go wrong with a Merlot, and the Sauvignon Blanc wines also make many friends. These varieties are not too heavy and fruity and smooth in character.

  5. Bubbles

Finally, a sparkling wine is also very festive to give as a gift, and often very welcome. Prosecco, Cava or Crémant are wonderful sparkling wines to serve. Or – if your budget allows – you can of course also unpack with a beautiful bottle of Champagne!
