Korean 10 step skincare routine

You may have heard of it: the Korean 10-step skincare routine. Very common in South Korea, but also increasingly popular in the West. That is not without reason: Korean women have beautiful, soft skin. The daily routine plays a major role in this, consisting of these 10 steps! This is how the Korean 10-step skincare routine works.

Step 1: cleansers (oil based)

We start with cleansers, the important first part of Korean skincare. A good skin care routine starts with cleansing. With a high-quality cleanser, you can effectively remove make-up, among other things. You can also remove other dirt from your face with this, so that it does not accumulate. A good cleaner not only cleans, but also moisturizes the skin. Apply the oil-based cleanser, massage and rinse thoroughly.

Step 2: cleansers (on waterbase)

After an oil-based cleanser, you also use a water-based cleanser. Together, this forms the so-called double cleansing. Thanks to the double cleansing, you clean the skin extra well, which in turn ensures purer skin. With a water-based cleanser you immediately remove the leftovers of the oil-based cleanser from your skin.

Step 3: exfoliators

After this it is time to exfoliate your skin. This is also known as peeling, which greatly improves the life cycle of the skin. The skin stays fresh and healthy for longer! In the west we are (at a young age) not so concerned with peeling, but Korean women swear by it. You remove dead skin cells, so that new skin cells emerge faster. This makes your skin structure look healthier.

Step 4: toners

This step consists of toners. This moisturizes the skin, which is good after cleansing. Further care products are also better absorbed if you first use a toner. In any case, you opt for hydration with toners, but extras are also possible, such as antioxidants and soothing ingredients.

Step 5: essences

Have you ever heard of essences? It is not well known here yet. Therefore a brief explanation: essences hydrate and contain many antioxidants that benefit the skin. In terms of structure, it is quite watery, but the effect is more powerful than a toner. A good successor.

Step 6: treatment serums

The word already reveals it: treatment is about treating skin problems, such as blemishes. With treatment serums or spot treatments you can tackle every spot. From treatment for pimples to creams for blemishes: choose a targeted treatment.

Step 7: sheet masks

Then it’s time for a face mask. Sheet masks are the most popular Korean skincare masks, consisting of a special sheet material. But you can alternate this with, for example, peel off masks and wash off masks.

Step 8: eye care

In this step you pay extra attention to the skin around your eyes: a sensitive area of skin. This is where skin aging first occurs. With eye creams and patches you keep the skin strong, nourished and elastic.

Step 9: moisturizers

Moisturizers again focus on hydrating the skin. Not only that: the previous care steps also have more effect by applying a moisturizer. In a cream, gel or lotion: you have several options.

Step 10: sun protection

Last but not least: sunscreen! Wear it every day, not just when the sun is shining. UV radiation has a strong aging effect on the skin. Your skin becomes slack and pigment spots and wrinkles appear. Applying sunscreen daily is therefore essential to prevent this.
