Vegetable manufacturer HAK calls on the Netherlands: fill the jar of the food banks! As a permanent partner of the food banks, HAK has launched an aid campaign to ask consumers to donate a financial contribution to the food banks. With this, the vegetable manufacturer from Giessen embraces the donation campaign of the food banks (#staysafeengeef) that has been running since last week.

Tikkie

HAK asks consumers on social media to fill the jar of the food bank via a Tikkie. The money raised will soon be used for the purchase of food and will be used for additional costs associated with, among other things, the imposed additional hygiene measures and deliveries. The appeal to consumers should provide an additional contribution that the food banks can help thousands of families in the near future. HAK will double the first € 50,000 raised through this promotion. This amount is in addition to the pots of vegetables and legumes that she usually donates as a regular partner throughout the year.

As an ambassador for the food banks, chef Herman den Blijker also supports the campaign. The food banks distribute food packages to 35,000 families (serving approximately 90,000 people) on a weekly basis. It is expected that more people than usual will turn to the food banks for help in the near future. And right now they are having a hard time. There is a significant faltering in the supply of food due to the hoarding behavior of consumers and the challenge of manufacturers, distribution centers and supermarkets to get products on time and in sufficient quantity on the store shelves. On top of that there are all kinds of logistical challenges for the food banks to assemble and distribute the food packages, including the various hygiene measures that are in force and the temporary closure of a number of food banks because some of the active volunteers fall within the “elderly” risk group.

“Food security for a vulnerable group of people is at stake. We also think it is important that everyone in society should be able to put a healthy meal with vegetables on the table. That is why we provide extra support to the food banks during these difficult times ”, says HAK CEO Timo Hoogeboom. “We see that other food manufacturers are standing shoulder to shoulder of the food banks in these difficult times and are also setting up donation campaigns. Hopefully more will follow. ”

Pien de Ruig, spokesperson Food Banks Netherlands, says in a response: “All new initiatives are heartwarming and we are very grateful. But we are not there yet. The food banks in the Netherlands already see the number of requests for food aid increasing as
consequence of this crisis. That is why all financial contributions, large and small, are very welcome. ”

Donate here and fill the jar of the food banks.
