Firstly Happy Kingsday (The Netherlands), the sun is shining so make a nice day out of it! Today a blog post about a tedious task you easily delay because your lack of time, cleaning  your makeup brushes. Yet it’s a very important part of your makeup routine and something you should do at least once a week, especially when you use your brushes dailyLet’s be honest, good makeup brushes aren’t cheap, so put a little love in it. Also it’s not good for your skin if you use dirty brushes daily and you have a greater chance of pimples and inflammationsThere are several ways to clean your makeup brushes and I show you two different ways how to: cleaning brushes.

Baby Shampoo.

My preference goes for a baby shampoo but you can also use an other mild shampoo, in any case, don’t use an aggressive shampoo because it can dry the bristles of your brushes. Zwitsal Shampoo costs € 3,99 (400ml).

Put some shampoo in a bowl of lukewarm water and add the brushes one by one. Stir the brush through the soapy water with circular movements, make sure you touch the bottom of the bowl so that the dirt comes off betterWhen the water is too dirty, it’s wise to make a new bowl of soapy water. Sometimes you have a brush that’s very dirty, for example, your powder or foundation brush, I’ll do some extra shampoo directly onto the brush and rub it in circular movements clean on the palm of my hand.

Then I let them dry on a towel, I was my brushes in the evening so they can dry well all night and the next morning you have nice clean brushes. Let the brushes dry flat so that moisture doesn’t run into the stem, otherwise you risk that the hairs release faster and the stem will get rusting.

Brush Cleaner.

It’s wise to clean you brushes with a brush cleaner once in a while so that the brushes aren’t only clean but also the bacteria that build up are in your brushes will get killed. Baby Shampoo cleans okay but doesn’t disinfect your brushes. A brush cleaner works nice and fast, the drying time is only briefly (5 to 10 minutes), a brush cleaner comes in different brands such as M.A.C and e.l.f. but I use the brush cleaner by Hema (a Dutch chain) this is cheap and works perfectly (€ 4.50 for 200ml).
