Give your home more living space with a veranda

A veranda on your house is almost a must in the Netherlands. The Dutch summers remain changeable and with a nice roof at home you can stay outside longer. We also have a veranda on our house and are thinking about expanding it with glass sliding walls. This way you increase your living space inside and you can enjoy under your roof all year round. Bring the outside in and create extra living space with, for example, a cozy sitting area. Your home will look bigger and with a heater you can ensure that the temperature remains pleasant even in the winter months.

It is a good investment that you can enjoy all seasons. Nowadays there is a lot of choice when you want to have a roof installed, and which one suits you and your home?

More living space with a veranda

There are different types of terms used for the same product:

  • porch
  • patio cover
  • veranda
  • garden cover

If you go one step further by closing the side walls and front, you call it a garden room. A garden room is often referred to as a conservatory, but they have one big difference. A conservatory is insulated, allowing it to expand your living room and allow you to remove windows and doors. A garden room is an enclosed space and it is not fully insulated. Enjoy a pleasant stay on colder days thanks to a heater, for example, but it is not a solution to enlarge your living room.

Which is also nice, especially if your garden is large enough, not to place the veranda attached to the house but loose in the garden. Also handy to store your garden furniture and to protect it against the cold and rainy days.

Plants for your veranda

You brighten up every living space with plants, but not every plant is suitable for under your veranda. With a glass veranda a lot of sunlight can come in, which does not make every plant happy, in winter it can get too cold for some plants. Any outdoor plant will do well under a porch. If you have a garden room, you will have to deal with large temperature differences, during the day with the sun it is wonderfully warm, but in the evenings it can cool down considerably. Mediterranean or subtropical plants can withstand these temperature differences very well.

There are countless possibilities for more living space. Check out Verasol.nl and be inspired. You can assemble Verasol products yourself or you can use the assembly service provided by their professionals.
