The waters of SPA

An ode to the magic of the mineral water. SPA mineral water has been of unprecedented purity for generations. The water can be drunk by anyone, unlimited and at any time of the day. The secret? In exchange for the care with which SPA protects its nature, nature gives back mineral water with a unique composition.

SPA Pure Nature

SPA’s natural mineral waters come from a beautiful, pristine nature reserve in the Belgian Fens. All ingredients for the creation of SPA natural mineral water are present there. Every drop of rainwater and every snowflake seeps through a long underground journey through different layers of soil; a natural filter. The result is an exceptionally pure mineral water with a low content of mineral salts.

My favorite is from SPA Reine Subtile, and then the fresh sweet taste of Raspberry-Apple. This was introduced last year along with two other flavors.

Protected with love

SPA has been lovingly protecting its untouched nature for more than 130 years. The mineral water comes from one of the largest protected nature reserves in Europe. It is a whopping 13,177 hectares, which is more than 26,000 football fields. A few examples of the special protection:

Any industrial or agricultural activity in the vicinity of the sources is prohibited.
No pesticides or fertilizers should be used.
In winter, instead of salt, the roads around Spa are sprinkled with sand to keep the water sources clean.
The diversity in the forests of Spa is closely monitored, a balance between deciduous and coniferous trees is ensured.
Forest management is done exclusively with machines that run on biodegradable oil.

Mineral water, source of purity

SPA’s mineral waters are 100% natural.
Bottling is done at the source to ensure the purity of the water.
The source is protected against any risk of pollution.
The composition of natural mineral water is stable over time. For example, future generations drink the same SPA mineral water as we do now.
Mineral water does not undergo any chemical or microbiological treatment.

400,000 bees

Several beehives have been placed in the protected nature reserve of Spa to measure the quality of nature and biodiversity. After all, bees are the gatekeepers of our nature and the best indicator of its quality. What seems? The biodiversity in the Spa area is very large (twice as large as in agricultural areas), no pollutants are present (about 500 parameters tested) and the bee population has grown healthy and strongly: from 160,000 to 400,000 bees!

Top Trio

Three unique mineral waters, each with its own character.

SPA REINE – the queen under the waters. Owes its name to Queen Marie-Henriette, she had a retreat in Spa and had a preference for this mineral. The pure water is low in minerals, making it suitable for preparing baby food and fits within low-salt diets. SPA Reine makes an underground journey of two to three years.

SPA FINESSE – naturally sparkling. A gift from nature, because it is naturally lightly sparkling. The light bubbles arise because, after a journey of no less than 50 years, the water comes into contact at a depth of 600 meters with carbonate-containing rocks that are more than 1.5 million years old.

SPA INTENSE – powerful thirst quencher. During the three to five year underground journey, this water hardly absorbs any minerals and is therefore very low mineralized. During the bottling process, carbon dioxide is added to SPA Intense. The powerful bubbles enhance the thirst-quenching effect.

Ecosystem

In March I received this beautiful ecosystem as a gift from SPA. Every raindrop and snowflake is purified by the unique nature. Four layers, peat moss, peat, sand and flint clay, are responsible for this. I find this in my mini-ecosystem. The ecosystem maintains itself, so the plants do not need water.
